Mid-Missouri Solid Waste Management District
A collection event for electronic waste and household hazardous waste materials will be held in City of Holts Summit, Mo. on Saturday, October 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Directions to the entrance for this collection event: Take Hwy. 54 to Holts Summit; exit at State Road OO. Travel west to N. Summit Drive (first stoplight). Turn left onto N. Summit Drive and go to Justice Lane. Turn left on Justice Lane.
This collection is for residents of households and farms in Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Cole, Cooper, Howard, Moniteau and Osage counties. To register, call 573-874-7574 by Thursday, October 22. Residents may also register electronically by e-mailing their name, address, telephone number and list of materials and quantity to mmswmd@GoColumbiaMo.com by October 22. Residents who fail to register may be charged a $10 fee or their materials may not be accepted.
No early drop-offs are permitted. This event is not for businesses, agribusinesses, schools, colleges or charitable organizations. Business waste and licensed farm chemicals will not be accepted due to federal law.
The list of acceptable household hazardous waste materials is extensive and includes: adhesives and glues, aerosol cans, ammonia, antifreeze, art & hobby paints, asphalt and roofing tar, batteries (rechargeable), batteries (lead acid), bleach, brake fluid, capacitors, caulk, car wax &cleaners, charcoal lighter fluid, CFCs &HCFCs, disinfectants, drain opener, fabric dyes, fertilizer, fingernail polish remover, flea collars, fluorescent light bulbs, furniture polish &wax, gasoline, insecticide, insect repellant, kerosene &fuel oils, lead, lighter fluid, lubricating oils, mercury, mothballs, organic solvents, oven cleaner, motor oil (5 gallon limit), paint (solvent-based, 50 gallon limit), paint (water-based, 50 gallon limit), paint strippers, alkaline-based, solvent-based, and water-based (50 gallon limit), pesticides, pet spray &dip, photographic chemicals, propane cylinders (handheld), rat &mouse poison, septic tank cleaners, shoe polish, spot removers, varnish, wood stain, swimming pool &spa chemicals, toilet bowl cleaners, transmission fluid, tub &tile cleaners, wood preservatives, and windshield wiper fluid.
Items that will not be accepted include: ammunition, appliances, asbestos, construction & demolition wastes, fireworks &other explosives, furniture & other bulky items, infectious or any biological wastes, medicine & pharmaceuticals, propane tanks (BBQ size), radioactive waste, smoke detectors, tires, trash & other standard garbage, unknown substances and yard waste or brush.
For electronic waste items, a $5 fee will be charged for each television, computer monitor, copy machine and microwave. No fee will be charged for adding machines, answering machines, calculators, camcorders, cameras, CBs/two-way radios, CD rom/zip/tape drives, cellular phones, laptop/desktop PCs, keyboards, mice, cords, cables, fax machines, electronic games, mainframes, modems, pagers, portable CD players, radios, stereos, scanners, speakers, telephones, typewriters, word processors, video game players.
This project is funded by a grant from the Mid-Missouri Solid Waste Management District & approved by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Partners include the City of Holts Summit, City of Fulton, Callaway County Commission, Pollution Control Industries, Inc. and Mid-MO Recycling.
