MMSWMD’s Annual District Council meeting was a success! We had a great representation of Region H in attendance.

On the agenda for the evening, were things like the FY2013 budget, annual report, and accomplishments for the past fiscal year. Two highlights were the presenters that joined us.

Mr. Tim Killday of EcoPave, LLC was present to speak about their glass paving product made of recycled beverage bottles. He outlined the aesthetic and lasting durability of the product along with its environmental benefits. The manufacturing of this paving material will help keep glass bottles out of the landfill and reduce stormwater run off. You can learn more by visiting www.prestogeo.com/filterpave.

Also in attendance was Mr. Tim Reinbott, Director of Agriculture Business at the University of Missouri. During FY2011, the University was awarded grant funding to erect a composting facility at Bradford Farms. Mr. Reinbott delivered a presentation about this facility and its composting cycle. The District Council was impressed with the project and what the University has accomplished. Mr. Reinbott expressed his excitement for the growth of the project and its success. He also conveyed his gratitude for MMSWMD voting to fund it.

The Bradford Farm Composting Facility works with Campus Dining to receive food waste and used vegetable oil. Food waste is composted then used to fertilize a vegetable garden. Once the garden is harvested, the vegetables then go back to Campus Dining to be served to students and staff. The waste oil collected is converted into BioFuel for the trucks that transport the food waste and vegetables. Mr. Reinbott and his staff have found a wonderful way to use this process to educate University students and to not leave any waste unused.

You can download and view Mr. Reinbott’s presentation by clicking here. You can also learn more about Bradford Farms by visiting http://aes.missouri.edu/bradford/

MMSWMD would like to thank both Mr. Killday and Mr. Reinbott for taking the time to visit with the our Council and speak about their projects.
