MRC is located at 1327 MO Hwy 179 (map)  All items are free with the exception of TV’s and computer monitors.  The fee is $15 per TV and $5 per monitor. 

MRC will recycle anything with a cord or battery going to it including TV’s; computer monitors; refrigerators; air conditioners; dehumidifiers; microwaves; treadmills; water heaters; furnaces; lawn and garden equipment if the gas is removed; cell phones; 8-track players; VCRs; telephones; copiers; printers; radio equipment of any kind; satellite receivers; telecom equipment; ham radios; video games and all accessories including the games; corded or cordless power tools including the batteries and charger; computers; faxes; car, boat and tractor batteries; re-chargeable batteries, etc.

NO: smoke alarms, thermostats and alkaline batteries

Grants that may qualify and be approved for funding are the cost and delivery of scrap tire surface material for playgrounds, running tracks, walking trails or other surfacing projects.  There are two grant categories: Playground and Non-playground surface materials.

Playground Scrap Tire Surface Material Grant – Approximately $200,000 is available.  Grant recipients requesting mats or pour-in-place surface material will be eligible to receive up to $20,000; while those asking for loose surface material are eligible to receive up to $10,000.

Non-playground Scrap Tire Surface Material Grant – Approximately $200,000 is also available.  Projects that would qualify in this category are running tracks, walking trails, equine/livestock stalls, riding area or similar types of projects.  Grant recipients requesting mats or pour-in-place surface material will be eligible to receive up to $100,000; while those asking for loose surface material are eligible to receive up to $50,000.

The purpose of this summit is to engage a dialogue with the District, Secondary Education Professionals, Sheltered Workshop Supervisors, and Recyclers in the eight county region of Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Cole, Cooper, Howard, Moniteau, and Osage.

Outlined goals of the summit will focus on networking and sharing resources, ideas, and partnership opportunities. Discussion topics will include ways to increase marketability and community outreach, best management practices, and finding solutions to challenges.  Agenda

Mid Missouri Solid Waste Management District (MMSWMD) would like to announce that the Application and Guidance Document for the FY2012 District Grant cycle is now available in hard copy or as a PDF file (attached).  Application forms are available on our web site at www.mmswmd.org 

MMSWMD, “Region H”, is made up of Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Cole, Cooper, Howard, Moniteau, and Osage counties.  With support from the Missouri of Department of Natural Resources, MMSWMD provides grant funding to help these counties and cities therein, and private organizations, both for-profit and nonprofit, to initiate or expand waste reduction, reuse, and recycling programs.  

Grant Workshops will be held in Conference Room 3A, 701 E. Broadway, Columbia, MO on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from 1-3pm  and Thursday, August 25, 2011 from 10 am - 12 pm.  Call to Register for one of these dates!

In January, MMSWMD sent a challenge to the 6-12^th grade students in our region to write and sing a song about waste reduction, reuse, and/or recycling.  Two grand prizes were offered, one $450 in US Savings Bonds to an individual or group in the 6^th-8^th grade and another $450 in US Savings Bonds to an individual or group in the 9^th-12^th grade.
